TUM: Start of the Start-up MBA

The first cycle of the new Executive Program in Innovation & Business Creation of the Economic Sciences Faculty at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) started on May 5th with 12 participants.
The English-language program, which is conducted together with the UnternehmerTUM – Center for Innovation and Founding and the Handelshochschule Leipzig (HHL), lasts 12 months and consists of five modules with a total of 60 instruction days in Munich and Leipzig, as well as 30 weeks of project work. A large part of instruction takes place on weekends. The professors come from the Technical University of Munich above all, as well as from the HHL, the University of California at Berkeley and other international universities. The teaching content encompasses the classic general management subjects, of which the fields of Innovation Management, Business Creation and Business Development are examined in depth. The program concludes with an MBA degree from TUM.

In the project work, participants develop their individual innovation and business plans and implement them. They are accompanied by a systematic innovations process and supported by experts.

According to UnternehmerTUM, 80 candidates were seriously interested in the program. 12 were accepted. Five participants will be financially supported by companies (three from large companies and two from small- to medium-sized firms). Two participants already have their own company and the remaining five wish to set up their own company.

The average career experience is eight years, with six participants already working for more than ten years. Five students are from abroad. Half of the class has a background in science or engineering.
