The global accrediting body for business schools, AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), has opened its first regional headquarters in Singapore.
"Today the Asian region hosts more than 5,000 business programs, and is now the largest center of management education in the world," said John J. Fernandes, president and chief executive officer of AACSB International. "Rightfully, as the premier accrediting body for business schools worldwide, AACSB has established a regional headquarters in Asia."
Currently there are a total of 111 member organizations across Asia and, of those, 20 maintain AACSB accreditation. Singapore is home to four members, two of which – the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Nanyang Business School - have received accreditation.
Singapore wants to become a Center for high quality education and has therefore started its Global Schoolhouse initiative some years ago. Beside their national business schools there are already several renowned business School like Insead or Essec Business School which have opened a campus in Singapore. Leading schools or organizations which want to set up an office or a campus in Singapore will be supported by the Economic Development Board.
With its new headquarters AACSB wants to strengthen its membership, professional development and accreditation services in the region. In addition there are more international conferences and seminars planned in the Asia region.
