Growing Entrepreneurship amongst MBA Students
MBA News Barbara Barkhausen / 12-18-2010
Sometimes good things stem from something bad. Since the financial crisis has weakened the job market for MBA graduates, they had to become more innovative in designing their careers and finding their place in the job market.
Figures from the QS World MBA Tour, which runs a worldwide tour of fairs for prospective MBA students, show that a growing number of students attend MBA courses so they can start their own company. The number of students specializing in entrepreneurship these days increased by eight per cent - up from 34 to 42 per cent. Up to 27 per cent of MBA applicants plan to run their own businesses in 10 years time after collecting more experience in the job market, reports the Saudi Gazette, citing the QS TopMBA Applicant Survey, which questioned nearly 4,000 MBA applicants from around the world.
The Saudi Gazette suspects in its article that successful online start-ups such as Facebook and Twitter have given MBAs more confidence to start their own business or turn away from bigger corporations to join smaller companies.
