China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), ranked as “Most Valuable MBA Program” in China by Forbes magazine in April, is about to get a new dean from Harvard. After six years at the helm of the school, Rolf Cremer will pass his position to John Quelch of Harvard Business School.
During the six years of Cremer's deanship, CEIBS experienced rapid growth. The school's budget tripled and it gained in recognition. In addition to the original campus in Shanghai, new campuses were opened in Beijing and in Shenzhen in 2010. In March 2009, a section of the Executive MBA was also launched in Accra, Ghana, to meet the huge management education needs of Sub-Saharan Africa.
John Quelch who was a Visiting Professor at CEIBS during 2009 will take the position of Dean on the 1st of February, 2011. Quelch holds degrees from Oxford University, the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, the Harvard School of Public Health and a doctorate from Harvard Business School. He is author or co-author of twenty books including Greater Good, Business Solutions for the Global Poor, The Global Market and Global Marketing Management. As an MBA and executive program teacher his many case studies have sold over 3.4 million copies, the third highest number in the history of Harvard Business School.
Quelch is a former dean of the London Business School and was Harvard Business School 's first Senior Associate Dean for International Development, responsible for overseeing all international activities. He is a non-executive director of London based WPP plc, the world's leading marketing services organization.
Cremer will continue to contribute to CEIBS as Dean Emeritus and Professor of Economics, drawing on his prolific knowledge of China and Europe and the many alumni, corporations, institutions and personalities which have contributed to the school's success since its foundation 17 years ago.
Forbes magazine placed CEIBS' full time MBA Program as number one in its 2010 ranking for China. The school rated highest in the categories of "return on investment" and "percentage of salary increase before and five years after the MBA." CEIBS was placed top for three consecutive years.
