New MBA offers worldwide

New MBA offers often tap into expanding and promising industries. If we believe in business school’s talent for analysing future trends, these are the hot new topics of 2011: combined law and management skills, luxury goods management and renewable energies. MBA Channel has looked into what’s new on the market.

COMBINED LAW AND MANAGEMENT DEGREES

1. The University of New Hampshire School of Law offers a new dual law and MBA degree. The dual degree will start in autumn and wants to develop students into business leaders and lawyers with a broader understanding across the subjects. The Université Panthéon-Assas, a leading law university in France, and Insead, one of the country’s well known business schools, have also created a degree that teaches management as well as legal skills (LL.M. International Business Law / Droit International des Affaires). This new diploma is designed for candidates with at least four years of professional experience and answers the needs of legal and financial directors.

LUXURY GOODS MANAGEMENT

2. In September the French business school Skema will launch its Masters in Luxury and Fashion Management on its China campus in Suzhou. The programme had already been taught on Skema’s Sophia Antipolis campus but the demand of students in China had been overwhelming and lead to the additional offer. Glasgow Caledonian University will launch its MBA in luxury goods management in September on its campus in Spitalfields, one of the trendiest areas of London’s East End. The programme is structured over one year and will enrol students in September as well as January.

RENEWABLE ENERGY

3. In October, the German Beuth University of Applied Sciences (Berlin) will start the new “MBA Renewables”. The course will be the first distance learning programme worldwide with the opportunity to obtain an MBA degree with a focus on renewable energy and energy efficiency. Other courses like the MBA Energy Management taught at the WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) specialize in energy management in general.
