Salaries: European graduates hit particularly hard
MBA News Barbara Bierach / 09-23-2010
According to the latest ranking of full-time programmes by the British business magazine “Economist” MBA graduates have seen their salaries tumble since the recession. Graduates of European business schools are hit particularly hard.
Usually they tend to earn more than their counterparts around the world since they are they are older with more work experience, but the gap is narrowing. The average basic salary for a student straight out of a European programme was 98,000 US dollar, a 66 per cent increase on their pre-MBA earnings. For graduates of North American programmes it was 86,000 dollar, an increase of 64 per cent. Top earners are students from France’s HEC who earned an average of 138,000 dollar.

It’s much, much worse than that. I quit my job in the US to come to Germany to do an MBA. I had close to 10 years experience and a pretty good paying job before I decided to do this. Now, after over six months of sending out more applications than I can remember, I have been invited to a grand total of ONE interview and am still without any source of income. This is looking more and more like a huge mistake every passing day.
