An arbitration panel in New York City will have to decide if a female banker was too sexy for her job. Citibank fired Debrahlee Lorenzana for “distracting” her male bosses with her extreme beauty, and she sued. She recalls a colleague telling her that the branch was “pretty much known for hiring pretty girls,” but apparently pretty and sexy are two different things.
Almost immediately after Lorenzana started working in the office, two male managers called her in to tell her that they didn't want her in "tight clothes" or turtle necks, but they did want her in makeup and straight hair. Lorenzana, a 33-year-old single mom, pointed out female colleagues whose clothing was far more revealing than hers. Citibank has a dress-code policy, which says "clothing must not be provocative". That in itself seems targeted toward women, considers the US publication Politics Daily and asks: "How can a man dress provocatively in a suit?"
