The one-year, career-accompanying program is offered by the Technischen Universität München (TUM – Munich Technical University) in cooperation with the UnternehmerTUM - Center for Innovation and Establishing – and the Handelshochschule Leipzig (HHL). The program is a combination of academic management education (MBA) with the systematic development of innovation and start-up projects.

The English-language program consists of five modules with a total of 60 days attended instruction in Munich and Leipzig as well as 30 weeks of project work. Much of the instruction takes place on weekends. The curriculum encompasses the classic General Management subjects, whereas the areas of entrepreneurship, innovation management and business model development are examined in greater depth. A one-week study visit to the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of California in Berkeley rounds out the program.

Parallel to the learning modules, participants develop their individual innovation and start-up plans and implement them in the project work. They are supported and methodically accompanied by UnternehmerTUM in this endeavor. For example, a workshop as well as office facilities and meeting rooms are at their disposal.

The participants in the new class all have an academic degree, for example in engineering or natural sciences, sports science, as well as law, design/media design and business administration. Just three students are from abroad. The average work experience is nine years and the average age of the participants is 35. Only two participants are sponsored by their employer. Last year this number was at five. He tuition is 28,000 euros.

Back then the first class started with 12 participants. Christoph Kaserer, Dean of the Economics Faculty at the TUM and Academic Director of the program views this 50 percent increase as a confirmation of the approach: “Those who want to successfully lead their company in the future, whether as a manager or entrepreneur, need special skills in the areas of innovation and business model development.”
