Recently at a press meeting. A colleague of mine, broadcaster at a local radio station, was talking about the MBA. “Whatever journalists write about this is completely nuts”, he complained. After all it would not matter where somebody had graduated as an MBA. No company would ever ask for this. Main thing was, he has got it.

Talking to a freshly emeritus Dean for business administration at a large Bavarian university: Will they have an MBA there, too? "It is nothing but learning by heart for two long years. No, we don´t need that."

So far so good, talking generally about an MBA at the moment. But as far as prospective students, universities and companies are concerned, almost nobody has a sufficient knowledge about MBA.

I have been investigating and writing about the field of MBA as a journalist for at least 15 years. There were ups and downs. Some years, MBA was "in", then again, MBA was declared dead. At the moment, the market is booming - thanks to Bologna. And finally, the postgraduate degree fits into our educational system.

Meanwhile the German MBA market has become completely unclear. New programs constantly show up and only a few have something in common with a profound management education, besides the representative label MBA. Competition is increasing fast and marketing their programs, there are many providers which do not act very seriously. Pretending to have an accreditation one does not have after all, is not unusual in this business. No wonder, within the educational sector common market laws also apply to. Public enlightenment is necessary.

MBA CHANNEL wants to inform about markets, point out background information and support decision-making tools. Critically and independently.
