What is the most important part of an application? Essay, Interview, personal profile, letters of recommendation?

Stephanie Kluth

Answer by Stephanie Kluth

All aspects of the application are important - each document we ask for gives us a better understanding of the applicant's past performance, present intentions, and future potential. Of all the above mentioned aspects, we place relatively equal importance on all of them when we review an application. If I had to choose one, I would probably say the interview. It is the best opportunity for us to meet the candidates face to face and have a good idea of how they will interact in the classroom.

Interviews, and personal profile. The profile needs to fit to the target group, and the interviews play an important role in the further admissions process. Communication, presentation, how can candidates defend a case, how do they assess themselves etc. are key criteria in St. Gallen.
The essays, letters of recommendation are part of the assessment of course, come after the points as mentioned above.

The most important part is the personal interview which is conducted by the academic director or program manager and one of our alumni. The reason is that we have the bigger picture of each class and its diversity in mind and our alumni know exactly which skills and mindset a potential MBA student should have.
