China Europe International Business School (CEIBS)

CEIBS is the leading China-based international business school. Its main objective is to contribute to China’s economic development and its business communities. It does this by offering to MBA students, to managers and senior executives of companies operating in, or planning to enter China, the latest knowledge and a thorough understanding of current practices in international management, helping participants to adapt them successfully to their own business environment.

Historically, CEIBS achieved its number one ranking in China by being the first and only business school on the Chinese Mainland that offered truly world-class MBA, EMBA and executive training. This was achieved by bringing in the best faculty from around the world and designing a curriculum based on international best practice. We also were the first school in China to offer a comprehensive career development programme that helps students to understand themselves, understand the contemporary job market, and compete effectively for the best available jobs. And very early on, we developed a strong international exchange programme that allows our students to study for a semester at one of nearly 40 partner business schools around the world. Because of these combined efforts, CEIBS has been able to attract an elite and very diverse group of students and professors who interact closely in a challenging educational environment to deepen the collective knowledge base and expand professional networking communities. Recruiters therefore have always rated CEIBS graduates very highly in terms of their job skills and readiness to move into higher positions of greater responsibility soon after graduation.

Career success, including vertical mobility, is an area where CEIBS scores very well on business school rankings. Today our competitors have improved but we have been able to enhance our strong position even further in three major ways:

1) We've grown our faculty size and deepened their expertise in both international management practice and China business. Unlike many other schools our faculty are in residence in China but have spent significant amounts of time working and studying outside of China, and they maintain strong connections to business professionals and scholars around the world. Our professors bring this combined global- and China-based view into their research and teaching activities in innovative and very relevant ways.

2) We've aligned our curricula to keep up with the changing needs of the Chinese economy. Our MBA programme has added initiatives to improve cross-cultural communication and teamwork skills of the student body. We've also added courses in the Finance area to better train students to compete in Shanghai's emerging financial services job market.

3) We've made clear efforts to expand our professional networks and increase the interaction among different constituencies. As the longest continuously running MBA programme in China, CEIBS has a large and deep alumni network. We also have very strong ties to both the international and local business communities. We have a number of initiatives through which we are working to increase the interactions between these groups and our current MBA student body - for example an extensive speaker series in which prominent business professionals share their views and expertise on China and the world economy.

In summary, we have been a leader in the development of China's management education market, and we actively work to maintain our strong position with systematic fine-tuning of our offerings and introduction of innovative new initiatives. All of this has led to worldwide recognition of our strengths from both public institutions such as the media who publish international business school rankings, and professional institutions such as the European accrediting association EQUIS. CEIBS is the first mainland Chinese business school to be EQUIS accredited. This and the high rankings we receive attest to the strength of our early and ongoing development efforts.
