Stanford Graduate School of Business

In September 2007, the Stanford Graduate School of Business will launch a new MBA curriculum that is more personal, with more faculty-student advising, expanded leadership and communication development, and, for the first time, a required international component. The completely retooled educational model builds on the advantages of the school’s strategically small student body size, which is less than half that of some other top business schools. Students will begin by taking a portfolio of 8 General Management Perspectives courses, such as Strategic Leadership and The Global Context of Business.

A new 16-person Critical Analytical Thinking seminar for all students will examine broad managerial issues such as ethics. From there, students will take 11 General Management Foundation courses. Faculty advisors will place each student in one of three different courses to fulfill distribution requirements, such as finance, marketing, or operations, depending on the individual student’s level of previous experience in that area. The objective is to ensure that each student – in our MBA class of diverse experience and backgrounds – learns most effectively.
