University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - Kenan-Flagler Business School

UNC Kenan-Flagler attracts students who have drive, a strong record of achievement and a strong desire to build successful businesses that contribute to a better world. UNC’s role is to help our students achieve their dreams as we also expand their horizons. Our approach gives students the depth to be highly effective in their chosen fields early in their career, as well as the broader foundation of knowledge, skills and values that determine long-term success. This means UNC Kenan-Flagler challenges students intellectually and teach them to ask and answer the right questions.

They deepen their knowledge of analytical methods, functions and industries. They build on that foundation and learn to solve multi-faceted problems and seize opportunities as a general manager does. Finally, they develop the understanding of market and industry dynamics needed to think and act strategically. Students apply they learn before they graduate by working on real business opportunities with corporate partners and entrepreneurs. Practice in choosing the right tools and learning how to apply them effectively in real-world situations integrates skills and prepares students to be effective in their next position.

While knowledge and the insight of how to apply it are the foundations of success, great things get done in business by groups of people – through leadership, teamwork and communication. At UNC Kenan-Flagler, students accelerate the development of these skills by actually being the leader, team member and communicator in real-world situations where they receive feedback on your planning, coaching and execution. Recruiters report that our students have the functional and industry knowledge they expect from all of the top global business schools. But they tell us they come to UNC Kenan-Flagler because our students also have a general manager’s perspective and an uncommon ability to get things done in their organizations, both as effective leaders and as strong team players. We are proud of this reputation and believe it reflects the intent of our approach. BusinessWeek ranks our faculty’s research No. 10 in “intellectual capital.”

Their work shapes how business acts and how policy makers legislate. But it is their dedication to students that sets the tone for our collegial environment. UNC professors are both thought leaders in their fields and passionate about their teaching. This is uncommon at a top research institution. Many of our professors also have significant corporate experience, serve on corporate boards and have owned businesses. Most teach in both our degree programs and our programs for executives. As a result, those who come to learn at UNC benefit from professors who are in touch with current business practices, network regularly with executives and work on the cutting edge of new research. We believe a curriculum designed to accelerate students’ careers and a top-notch research faculty that cares deeply about students and their goals is a terrific combination. Alumni tell us it does more than advance their careers. It changes their lives.
